Who says August doesn't have holidays? Today is one of the most important holidays of the year . . . even if I only heard about it two hours ago. As Pink says, raise your glass, today is National Radio Day! And here are some results from a new survey in honor of today . . .
1. 71% of people listen to their radio in the car.
2. Two out of three people listen to the radio every day.
3. 56% of women and 35% of men sing along to the radio.
4. 59% of women and 76% of men are listening when we say "don't touch that dial" . . . and they stay on a station during the commercials.
5. And finally, almost 9% of people say radio stations don't play enough commercials and should have more. Hey… I WORK in radio and even I say, easy on those ads man! (National Today)
If you missed this last month, an ancient sarcophagus was found in Egypt, and people started a petition to drink the RED WATER inside of it so they could get super mummy powers. Even though the water was actually just SEWAGE. Well it's happening again. Archaeologists just found some CHEESE in a 3,200-year-old Egyptian tomb. And . . . yup . . . people want some of that too. So far, there's no major petition to eat it, but there are lots of people on social media saying they want a taste. And obviously that's a terrible idea . . . the cheese is contaminated with bacteria that would almost definitely kill you. (Mashable)
Well, no matter HOW angry you've made your wife lately, at least you aren't this guy. A husband and wife were sailing from Newport, Rhode Island to East Greenwich, Rhode Island on their 39-foot sailboat on Friday afternoon. And at some point the woman FELL OVERBOARD. She managed to swim to an island, and the Coast Guard rescued her around 4:00 A.M. on Saturday.
Why did it take them so long? It's because her husband DIDN'T REALIZE she was gone. He thought she'd just been below deck the whole time . . . and he didn't figure out she was missing until he stopped sailing around 2:00 A.M. The woman had mild hypothermia . . . from being in the water, not the cold-blooded anger that was coursing through her veins for the half a day she was stranded on the island.
