LIBERTY – A Town of Liberty man was killed on Sunday when a device he was building for a gender reveal party for his soon-to-arrive baby exploded killing him, State Police said.
Christopher Pekny, 28, was building the device in advance of the party to announce whether his wife was having a boy or girl when it exploded just before noon.
His brother, Michael Pekny, 27, also of Liberty, was injured and transported to Garnet Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill.
The incident remains under investigation by the State Police and its Bomb Disposal Unit.
The Pekny family owns and operates the Robin Hood Diner in Livingston Manor.
