Akihiro Kondo was left devastated when his family opted to skip out on the wedding between him and the love of his life.
It might be because that “love” came in the form of Hatsune Miku, an inanimate “fictional computer-synthesized pop singer that had been on tour with Lady Gaga.”
Now, Kondo fully acknowledges that his lady “isn’t real,” but stresses that his feelings for her are, and it’s a relationship that pulled him out of depression. Apparently, this kind of relationship isn’t uncommon in Japan, although most don’t go the full-on marriage route. It’s said that “thousands” in Japan have “unofficial relationships with fictional characters.”
While none of his family attended the wedding, Kondo wasn’t alone, as 39 people showed up…mostly “strangers and online friends.”
