An Australian dating expert and matchmaker reveals the five words she thinks women should stop saying if they want to find romance. In a video posted to Instagram this week, Louanne Ward explains why women should avoid saying, “I don’t need a man.”

According to Louanne, this phrase sends single men running and it becomes a kind of self-fulfilling prophecy. While it’s true that you don’t need a man because you earn your own money, can support yourself and are happy with your life, she says, “Every time you say ‘I don’t need a man,’ what you’re doing is putting out there exactly what you’re attracting back.” No guys.

And while you might not need a man for a lot of things, she points out that you do actually “need all the things a man can give you,” like love, affection, support, laughter, caring and of course, the hibbity-dibbity. So rather than declaring that you don’t need a man and putting that idea out into the universe, she advises “being brave enough to say ‘Actually, I do need a man for all the things that I can’t give myself.’”

So, bottom line is if you’re looking for a relationship with a guy, it’s tough to find one when you’re literally saying the opposite.
