Ulster BOCES Offering Career-Boosting Class in Automotive Basics

PORT EWEN — For those looking to start an automotive career, Ulster BOCES is currently enrolling for the “Automotive Service Technician Basics” course, which begins on January 24, and runs until April 4. Classes will be held every Tuesday and Thursday, from 5-8 PM, at the Ulster BOCES Adult Career Education Center in Port Ewen.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) a job as an automotive service technician boasted a median salary of $50,000 in our region in 2021. It is a great starting point for anyone interested in mechanics, with plenty of room for growth in both training and salary.

Students will learn the skills of an entry-level automotive technician, a professional who performs diagnostic tests, routine inspections, repairs and maintenance on cars, trucks and other vehicles. They will leave the class with the fundamental skills to perform basic automotive repairs safely, and with confidence. The course will cover both safety information and tool and equipment use and care, as well as provide an introduction to other basic shop procedures. S/P2 Safety and Pollution and Valvoline Certifications, two highly desirable credentials employers look for, can be earned. The cost of the class is $1,320.
